Monday's child is fair of face
Tuesday's child is full of grace
Wednesday's child is full of woe
Thursday's child has far to go
Friday's child is loving and giving
Saturday's child works hard for his living
And the child that is born on the Sabbath day
Is bonny and blithe, and good and gay.

August 1959:

A hot day in the Cold War. Helen's got to make up her mind whether or not she's ready to join her sister Martha and leave her small desert town for the big city. A broken car and a broken family are standing between her and a decision.

Helen and Martha represent a lot of women in the 1950's and before who had to fight for education, for jobs, for respect, and for the right to define family on their own terms. For these sisters, in order to leave, they have to say goodbye to people they love and extricate themselves from a profoundly difficult home life. But even that's not simple and the decisions aren't going to be easy. In the meantime, there's a motel to clean and a car that needs fixing. And the sun is getting higher in the sky. They've got far to go.
